Our Artists

If it weren’t for our founder Jullianna’s discovery that her late mother had left her a treasure trove of original artwork, NoMiNoU would not exist today. Art was the catalyst that led Jullianna to create the clothing line she now calls NoMiNoU, and art remains at the forefront of our minds when creating a new collection.

With a passion for art and design deeply embedded in our brand’s DNA, NoMiNoU has established the Global Artists Initiative to facilitate collaborations with various international artists. Using work created by these artists, the NoMiNoU team will translate and adapt their art into our own in-house designed patterns.

Our goal is to highlight and celebrate different cultures from around the globe while supporting emerging artists by providing industry-high royalties and a new medium for their original artwork to be celebrated. When the world seems deeply divided, we undertake this initiative to unite people through art and encourage worldwide acceptance of culture.

Supporting Indigenous artists is important to us. When purchasing Indigenous art, it is important to ensure authenticity and that the artist is fairly compensated. Here are some best practices from Francesca Fionda & Zachary Kershman to employ when buying Indigenous art.

Artist Appreciation

While NoMiNoU is well-known for its distinctly Canadian designs and patterns, we are also a proudly inclusive brand that aims to celebrate the diversity of all cultures. In fact, the name NoMiNoU is derived from the phrase “No Me, No You”, which is a deliberate statement of our belief that we are all one in the universe. In keeping with this aim, NoMiNoU has established the Global Artists Initiative to facilitate collaborations with a variety of international artists. Through this initiative, we collaborate with artists to showcase their original designs in our collection.

NoMiNoU was created as a way for our founder, Jullianna, to share her late mother Naomi’s artwork with the world. Her mother had travelled extensively around the globe and as she explored other cultures, she embraced and welcomed them wholeheartedly – and they welcomed her. As her art reflected her belief in the importance of acceptance and unity, inviting international artists to collaborate with us feels like a fitting tribute to Naomi and everything she stood for. With so much division all around us these days, we want to unite people by celebrating different ethnicities – and our hope is that these artistic collaborations will do just that!

Because we believe strongly in celebrating the beauty in every culture, we were inspired to show our appreciation by creating the Global Artists Initiative. Through this initiative, we work hand in hand with artists from around the globe to showcase their original artwork. This collaboration has allowed us to curate a collection of wearable art. We hope you will enjoy the beauty of these designs, created with love and with the intention of celebrating all people and their cultures.
