NoMiNoU Ambassador Profile: Shelley Ocean Latendresse

A multi-passionate individual, Shelley Ocean Latendresse is one busy lady! She manages to juggle a career, kids, and countless activities and hobbies – and makes it look effortless! A practicing Occupational Therapist for 20 years, Shelley has also been a TV host and reporter for Delta TV, practices yoga regularly and is an avid biker/runner/swimmer. We don’t know how she does it all!

What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness to me represents a state of good mental and physical health based on balanced choices in lifestyle and activity.

How long have wellness and mindfulness been important parts of your life? Walk us through your personal wellness journey.
I have always been a bit of an adrenaline junkie; I like fast activities and adventures on the edge. But over the years, I have learned to achieve some yin in my life through yoga and mindful centering moments in nature. In the past couple years, I’ve had to deal with health setbacks such as a concussion. During this time I’ve taken bigger steps to wellness through diet and mindfulness in order to heal.

What does a day in your life look like?
Weekday: Green smoothies, wrangle the kids out the door by 8:30, working with special needs children all day, come home at 5, do yoga or a dog run or go swimming, have a simple dinner, then music and homework.
Weekends: 7am dog walk to the beach with coffee and a friend, drive kids around or hang out with them, go for a bike ride/snowshoe/run, do some housework, bake healthy stuff, do yoga, read or play my guitar, sleep.

With such a busy life, how do you maintain balance?
I make sure that I spend lots of time outside. I challenge myself do try new activities. I see a naturopath and take the supplements I need. Yoga is my balance to all the fast and crazy. I make sure I get enough sleep and H20. Also, I work 3-4 days per week.

What are your top wellness tips?
Food:
Have a green smoothie every day, eat lots of seeds and nuts, and minimize dairy, sugar and gluten in your diet.
Fitness: Ride a bike and do HIIT workouts anywhere three times a week (check out YouTube for inspiration).
General: Spend time in nature every single day, and make sure you get enough sleep and H2O.

What or who is currently inspiring you?
My yoga instructor, my cycling idols, God and my kids.

What’s next for you? Any exciting projects, collaborations, events, or personal milestones in the works?
I am going to be starting my own children’s Occupational Therapy clinic, completing children’s yoga teacher training and plan to find my way back to TV broadcasting. Oh, and I will ride a Grand Fondo!
