Five Fearless Females You Need to Meet

Since March is International Women’s History Month, we thought it would be fitting to profile five women who are, in their own way, making history right now. Each of these females embodies a fearlessness that we admire – and we’re sure you will too!

Ronda Rousey

As the saying goes, well-behaved women seldom make history. And when it comes to MMA fighter Ronda Rousey, nothing could be truer. This tough chica is the first UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, with 12 wins under her belt and a place in the record books for the fastest UFC submission victory in a championship fight. In addition to crushing it in the male-dominated sport of mixed martial arts, she is a judoka, an actress and a spokesperson for causes close to her heart. She has worked with the United Nations World Food Programme to fight hunger, and received the Didi Hirsch’s 2014 Erasing the Stigma Leadership Awards, which honours advocates of mental health. We love that she doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind and stays true to herself, even when it comes to the brands she chooses to work with; her ads for Pantene, for instance, feature the tagline “don’t hate me because I’m strong, because strong is beautiful”. We couldn’t agree more!

Anjali Lama

From a childhood spent in rural Nepal to landing the cover of ELLE India magazine, model Anjali Lama has come a long way. However, her accomplishments are even more impressive when you learn that she is transgender. As a young boy who was clearly different, Anjali faced regular criticism by her father and brothers, and bullying at the hands of other children at school. It was only after she came across a television show featuring transgender people that she realized there were other people like her. This helped her embrace her true female identity and nowadays, she’s breaking ground as the first transgender model to appear on the catwalk at India’s largest Fashion Week. For Anjali, the sky is clearly the limit.

Sophie Gregoire Trudeau

As Canada’s First Lady, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau is the epitome of poise and charm – but at the same time, she doesn’t hesitate for a moment to speak candidly about what’s on her mind. Whether it’s sharing her teenage struggles with an eating disorder or talking openly about her alternative take on spirituality, her candour is a refreshing change from the restraint that is typical of politicians’ wives. Not one to stand in her husband’s shadow, Sophie uses her platform to advocate for women’s issues, serving as an ambassador for Plan Canada’s Because I Am a Girl campaign against gender inequality. And whether she is gracing the cover of Vogue magazine with Justin in tow or going incognito on the street, her style icon status always remains strictly intact.

Parisa Tabriz

Thirty-one year old computer genius Parisa Tabriz is slaying it big time as a female in the traditionally male field of security engineering. Known as the “Security Princess” by her employer Google, she manages a team of 30+ hackers who use their skills for good to keep the world’s most popular Internet browser – Google Chrome – safe and secure for the rest of us. With a deep-rooted passion for hacking, this Iranian-Polish-American is all about making the web safer to browse and has even worked with the U.S. Digital Service to enhance network security at the White House. Despite her super high pressure job, Parisa manages to find time to indulge her impressive list of hobbies, which include glass blowing, photography, rock climbing, pixel illustration and gingerbread house making (so epic, you must check out her work here). Is there anything she can’t do? In a word: no!

Ashley Graham

One of the things that we love most about blazing hot plus-size model Ashley Graham is that she makes no apologies. Not for her voluptuous figure, not for her oozing sex appeal – nada! And why should she? These qualities are exactly what has helped make her a majorly in-demand model, from runway and editorial to TV and film. Ashley has starred in ad campaigns for brands like Levi’s, Calvin Klein and Bloomingdale’s. But refusing to simply coast on her success, Ashley is also a body activist and the co-founder of ALDA, a collective of models of all sizes that works to challenge conventional notions of beauty in the world of fashion. With a line of plus-size lingerie carried in Nordstrom, it’s no surprise that Forbes Magazine’s included this savvy businesswoman in their elite “30 Under 30” List in 2016. This girl is on fire!
